Dec 13, 2005 · I have successfully just reset my "OIL" and "INSP" warning on my Passat B5 1.8T 1998 with the following procedure. To reset OIL warning: 1. Shut all doors (I don't know why but it doesn't work with the doors open) 2. Press and hold "mile reset button" 3. Turn ignition key on without starting the engine 4. Make sure the light comes on when the key is first turned on, then start. If the light goes out, its ok, each time the system is powered on it conducts a readiness test for 15 airbag. Ethan - I cleared the code - it was intermittent Airbag Ignitor and Module if I remember correctly. Used 00Psst's VAG and reset the airbag codes and that was it. For B5, the positive is from fuse 38 in fuse holder which also provides power to all four door control modules. It goes through the switch then to the motor for fuel tank door unlock.
